Key Targets of Goal 13
Goal 13 focuses on five core targets to guide countries toward climate-resilient and low-carbon futures by 2030:
- Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity (13.1): Enhance the ability of countries, communities, and ecosystems to withstand climate hazards like floods, storms, and droughts.
- Integrate climate measures (13.2): Embed climate mitigation and adaptation strategies in national policies, development planning, and decision-making.
- Improve education and capacity building (13.3): Raise awareness, provide education, and develop institutional and human capabilities for climate mitigation, adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and early warning systems.
- Mobilise climate finance (13.a): Developed countries commit to jointly mobilising $100 billion annually to support developing countries in climate action.
- Promote capacity-building mechanisms (13.b): Support vulnerable countries and communities with tools, resources, and training for effective climate planning and management.
Importance of the Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement (2015) is a historic global accord to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit global temperature rise. Each country submits a Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) outlining climate action plans, updated every five years. The agreement promotes transparency, stronger commitments, and global cooperation to achieve climate stability.
